A Construction Safety Manual is Required to Meet OSHA Regulations
OSHA’s construction standards require employers to have accident prevention programs that provide for frequent and regular inspection of the jobsites, materials, and equipment by competent persons designated by the employers. A comprehensive construction safety manual is required by OSHA. Construction is a high hazard industry that comprises a wide range of activities involving construction, alteration, and/or repair. A Safety and Health Plan in construction is important. Construction sites and construction related firms are expected to have and implement an Injury Illness and Prevention Program (IIPP). Every employer shall adopt a written construction safety plan. The new law increases penalties to employers that violate the Occupational Safety and Health Laws to as much as $15,000 for a failure to abate and up to $25,000 for a serious violation.
Construction workers engage in many activities that may expose them to serious hazards, such as falling from rooftops, unguarded machinery, being struck by heavy construction equipment, electrocutions, silica dust, and asbestos. Other potential hazards for construction workers include: falls, trench colapse, scaffold collapse, electric shock failure to use proper personal protective equipment and repetitive motion injuries.
